We got everything we thought we might need all laid out on Thursday night. Friday we woke up around 4:30 am and were headed out to the hospital 30 minutes later. We checked in at about 5:30 am. Paige was already yawning but (of course) wouldn't rest before surgery. :)
Paige wasn't thrilled about the crazy pajamas she got, but was happy to sit in the super cool big chair while we waited around. She's turned into a real mama's girl....just in time for father's day. She's grumpy in the picture with daddy because I was in the room....therefore I should hold her...
Male nurse Jon (tee-he-he-snort) took some initial vitals. Paige didn't care for him. Mommy didn't really like him either. Most of the nurses, the anesthesiologist, nurse anesthetist, even Dr. Sudel were pleasant, helpful, etc. But nurse Jon and Nurse Rose kind of had their heads up their....well....since this is a family friendly blog (usually) lets just say they didn't have their heads in the game.
She lounged with Daddy for a little bit. There was so much going on and Paige didn't want to miss anything. It's a little after 6am in these pictures.
Since Mommy was going to go into the operating room with Paige a "blue suit" was delivered. We played with the bonnet and bunny mask for a long time. Paige liked it as a mask as well as a "yat" (hat). Bunny tried it too. Here she is leaving for the OR with Mommy and some of the doctors. Just before this picture was taken we were talking with a bunch of the doctors and Paige let out a long snappy fart. Nice.
When we were finally in the OR I sat her down in the middle of the table and handed her Bunny. I didn't count but there we're probably 8 to 10 people in there...a little overwhelming. We unpinned the NG tube and started putting "stickers" on Paige. Fun going on...shi**y coming off. After all the stickers were on Paige looked around the room...looked at me....and stuck out her lip. When I didn't pick her up she started crying which, I guess, was good for when they put the mask on her to put her under. One of the doctors stood behind her supporting her head and put the mask over her nose and mouth. I was hugging her and singing the Itsy Bitsy Spider. Still bawling, with the mask on, she made one pathetic attempt to do the itsy bitsy hand motions.....still bawling closed her eyes....still with a pissed off look on her face quit bawling.....
The doctor said "okay, she's probably out now" and he let go of her head. Yep. She was out cold. Her head flopped back & they laid her down. She still looked crabby which was kind of funny. Of course I had to split. They whisk you out of there pretty quickly at that point. I took Bunny with me.
I went to find Mike and shortly afterward Grandpa (AKA Papas AKA Dad AKA Steve Blake) came to sit with us. Dad had some coffee and Mike and I ate a sandwich and some juice. We could see on a computer screen that Paige went into surgery at 7:39am. At 8:35 it said she was in recovery. At about 8:45 Mike and I got to go see her.
Grandpa came it to see her for a bit and brought Bunny back to her. She was happy to see Bunny but right away was wondering where Grandma was?.....
Dad headed out and Mike came back in. We talked with all of the doctors and it was all good news. Dr. Sudel didn't see any inflammation, got the tissue he needed, didn't disturb the NG tube. She's had a cough the last couple of days and she started wheezing during the procedure. They gave her some albuteral and that helped. Later, in recover with us she was wheezing again so we gave her more albuteral with a nebulizer. They actually wrote us a prescription for more if we want.... I thought it was weird that after the albuteral she didn't cough for several hours....I wouldn't be surprised at all if Paigey has some asthma issues...We'll mention it to Dr. Dessa later...one health crisis at a time.
Paige was feeling pretty good after a 30 minute nap or so. Groggy, woozy, shaky...but happy to blow some bubbles, drink some water, hear some babies crying etc.
We started pulling off stickers & the IV. This was really hard for Paige. We headed back over to 3C for discharge after a few more vitals were taken. Her heart rate was high but the anesthesiologist said it was related to the albuteral. We stayed around a bit to be sure. Ate a popsicle, and picked out a balloon.
Once we were home Paige played with her balloon and ate a little bit of sandwich....and turned green....we took away the sandwich and all took naps instead. 3 hours later we were all awake and the afternoon was pretty typical. Paige ate about 1/2 PB & J and another popsicle. We replaced the boring hospital band-aid with a Handy Manny one and she played with Mike while I blogged. She went to bed around 7:45 pm. We MADE it!
Thanks to everyone who was thinking about us and praying for us! Speaking for myself I didn't have much anxiety through the day and am very happy to say that Paige seemed safe, calm and comfortable for most of the whole experience. We'll have actual results of the biopsy sometime next week. We see Dr. Sudel again on July 1st.
Thanks for visiting her blog too. It feels good to see the counter go up each day and to know that there are people who care about our family....even if 5000 of the hits were from Grandma and Aunt Jessie. ;)

ahem....Grandma, Aunt Jessie and ME! :)
What a little sweetheart. So glad to hear everything went well. God bless you all. Love you!
Thanks for leaving so many details. It sounds like everything went fairly well. Now we'll just pray that the results give some answers.
