Doggie Update

Last July we were ready to say goodbye to Tuffy (she's got a multitude of health issues, all related to being 112 years old in dog years). She's a trooper, adjusted well to her new diet/medication and has had a great year! She was in to the vet again today (routine) and even though she isn't in an immediate health crisis the way she was a year ago, we've decided to say good bye again for good.

Darn pets. Why can't they just go peacefully in their sleep for crying out loud? Its hard to deal with the pain of loosing a dear little friend when you feel like the judge and executioner. Sigh.

I haven't made her appointment yet...Mike might have to do it....

It feels strange talking about the end of her life when she is reasonable happy and healthy right now....15 years is a long time for a little dog though....If we wait any longer some existing health conditions (most likely her severely deteriorated teeth) will lead to unnecessary pain and suffering without adding much quantity and no quality to her life....dang...we just bought a HUGE bag of dog food. I've been crying off and on all day...which Paige thinks is funny...which kind of helps actually......obviously we have mixed emotions about this....I think that's normal.

Another update:

Paige had another not-so-great week as far as weight gain is concerned. She is at 20 pounds 14 ounces. Up 1 measly ounce since last week.

As irritated as I am, I think there are a few factors to explain. She was without her during-the-day milk supplement (Bright Beginnings) for the entire week. We were out. Its expensive. You can't just run to wal-mart to pick up a case. We have also been battling the pump overnight. 3...4...5...6 or more alarms each night. We BOTH get up, turn off the alarm, untangle the baby, start the pump again....there were several times this week we just turned the damn thing off eventually. Sigh.

Anyway, we don't see Dr. Sudel for a month so we've got a few weeks to redeem ourselves.

Gee, what else can happen to this family? First Paige, then mommy, then Tuffy... I don't want to mention Maggie's ear infection 'cause I don't want to be the only one left without an ailment.

Sorry to hear about Tuffy. She was a great friend to our family.
