Kirby-5 Carpet-0

It was another pretty good day with Paigey. She got just slightly less than the full dose of Peptamen (still struggling with alarms all night...the first one was within 10 minutes of putting her down.....sigh....). I weight her throughout the day and she is up 6 oz and holding steady! It probably helps that she ate more than her fair share of spaghetti the last 2 nights....and a mayonnaise sandwich for lunch.

The downside of feeding her spaghetti....new tape is a givin. The tegaderm that holds the tube to her face had curled up on the ends and spaghetti sauce had collected in the nooks and crannys. We have some little wipes to help loosen the adhesive....but...Paige gets very anxious when we fuss with the tube. Tonight was easier than last time and I suppose next time will be easier still. We did notice a little red spot...a sore...on her cheek where the tube must have been rubbing. We repositioned it so that area isn't covered again. I'm a little bummed that the tape (tegaderm) ended up a little close to her eye. We do have the option of using a product called duoderm that has a little padding on it...but...when I looked at the invoice!!!!!

Insurance is covering the food, the pump, and the bags. They are probably NOT covering everything else that we need. For example:

one extra NG tube $26.82
Pink HY Tape $2.56
Adhesive Remover wipes $17.39
Skin Prep Wipes $15.00
Duoderm (gulp) $130.80
Bright Beginnings $40.00
Tegaderm $7.00
Cloth tape $2.00
SteriStrips $8.50
Diaper Pins $2.00

Of course there are a few other miscellaneous things that are bound to come up. Eventually we'll need more syringes, new extender tube, and so on. The items listed above should last about 30 days....except for the duoderm....I'm SO calling the medical supply people to return those....I wonder if I could just score some "samples" from nurse Athena this week......

In other news: Kirby seems to be enjoying her vacation. We are puppy sitting all week while Auntie is away. Its been a bit of an adjustment to coordinate our...ahem...schedules. Right now in the war between Kirby and the carpet, Kirby is winning.

Lastly, I have a request for all of you out there in the blogosphere. I learned this week that a student of mine this year just lost her mom. She was killed by a drunk driver as she crossed the street. Please, please, please pray for Nina. She is an awesome kid who very much needed/needs her mom.
